Does an African safari feature on your bucket list? If yes, Uganda has so much to offer, from spectacular scenery, friendly people and cultural treasures to blissful mountains. Uganda has amazing places to see and people to meet. It is a land of contrasts.
We love going there. World class highlights we have seen include the gorilla tracking, Lake Bunyonyi, the source of the Nile at Jinja, and Murchison’s Falls National Park. Please take time to talk with the people about the lives they lead and the challenges they face daily.
After reading the reviews, I contacted Mike over the internet after emailing a couple different rental companies and I got a good feel for Maike among other car rental companies in Uganda. I must say that the company lived up to the expectations.
Mike was the first to respond to my inquiry and the communication through what’s app was very clear and straightforward. After arriving in Uganda Mike showed up at the agreed place and time. The car, a Toyota Land cruiser TZ with rooftop tent, was in perfect condition for our 3 weeks camping trip.
Maike met us at the airport and gave us a quick run through of the car and some important bits and pieces about driving on the roads in Africa. My fiancée and I proceeded to drive the car just over 1500km in 3 weeks including spending time in the Masai Mara (crossing the border into Kenya) and all the way down to Uganda.
Maike arranged everything we needed to cross the borders as smoothly as possible – but the thing you have to remember is that in Africa nothing is ever as easy as you hope it will be.
During our trip Mike contacted us if everything went well and gave us a lot of tips for our travel. If this is your first safari, Uganda makes a good option. Going on a safari in Uganda is an unforgettable experience, offering a heady mix of adventure, thrilling wildlife sightings, cultural encounters and spectacular scenery.
A good destination for Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking has the experience was a lot better than expected and the parks were well managed has not to get overrun and the people were warm and friendly throughout and 4×4 Car Hire Uganda made this a very memorable trip.
He always responded back thoughtfully and within a reasonable time – having never been to this part of Africa it was a bit of a difficult thing to feel out – but a gut feel was all I really had to go on. We agreed on a Land Cruiser Prado with rooftop tent and he also arranged our gorilla permits free of charge (we had to pay the permit fee, but he got them for us at no additional charge).
The company was prompt in all communications, easy to work with, and the vehicle was exactly as described. While it had some miles on it, it worked perfectly and had no mechanical issues. They even provided maps and a garmin GPS. This is a “real” safari truck – the same as many of the guided safaris use and that you can pay upwards of $400 a day from some operators.
While driving in Uganda is not as scary as many say. Drive with purpose, without crazy maneuvers, and give way without giving too much way, and you will be just fine! Very much recommend this company, as they deliver what they promise.
Regardless, the car was in good shape and handled the roads (and pot holes) as well as can be expected. A couple of tire repairs were necessary but Africa is full of service shops who can patch and repair tires. We did ask Maike to get us a new spare which he agreed to and met us out on the road after one tire was unfortunately beyond repair.
When I travel I do my best to visit local communities and humanitarian based non-profits. Maike really heard these requests and helped us find local food to try and introduced us to many local public health and women’s empowerment initiatives. The eco – tourism takes wildlife conservation very seriously and most of the lodges we stayed served locally sources foods (even if they were more Westernized meals) which were delicious.
Further, both 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and the places we visited seemed to do their very best to minimize single use items so we saw very few plastic bottles for water and even the soap/shampoo in the lodges were in dispensers. The kindness and gentleness of the people we met along the way will stay with us forever.
And, seeing how respected our guide was by everyone we encountered spoke volumes about how 4×4 Car Hire Uganda is valued as a tour company that balances the needs of tourists with the importance of communal care. Thank you for this dream come true adventure!
Maike and 4×4 Car Hire Uganda are two things you can put your trust in while planning your trip. Highly recommended.
